Herman Area Parks, Campgrounds, Outdoor fun
Niemackl Lake Park 4 miles south of Herman on State Highway 9 320-677-2640
Niemackl Lake Park, Herman, Minnesota was established to preserve an area that is much the same as when it provided refuge for wildlife and native Americans used it as a gathering place. The Dakota Indians called it Moose island. A ring of water protected the central part of what is now the park from fires that swept across the prairie, allowing a heavily wooded forest to grow. The island was a haven where large numbers of Native Americans gathered over a prolonged period. Ample evidence of this is found in the two large burial mounds in the park. The picnic area is the site of the annual community picnic every August. *Wildlife refuge with many trails *30 foot wildlife observation tower *2 picnic shelters *Several picnic areas *Campsites *Playground *Outdoor restrooms
